Hans kungliga höghet Abubakari Mohammed Awal, kung av Dagbon, ville under sin kommande Sverigeresa träffa borgmästaren Göran Johansson i Göteborg för att förkovra sig i ämnen som undervisning, utveckling, kultur, teknologi och turism.
Men tyvärr:
”Jag måste informera er om att borgmästaren Göran Johansson lämnade sitt ämbete 2009 och sorgligt nog gick bort den 23 oktober 2014”, skriver Gunilla Bökmark, internationell chef på stadsledningskontoret, i sitt svar till kungen i förra veckan.
Hon tackade också nej till besöket:
”Jag måste också informera er om att Göteborgs Stad vill inrikta sig på redan befintliga samarbeten med olika motparter på den afrikanska kontinenten och därför inte önskar påbörja något nytt samarbete för tillfället. Vi är tacksamma för förslaget men tyvärr tvingas staden Göteborg för tillfället avböja ert förslag.”
Hovet i Dagbon, en provins i norra Ghana, hade inte full koll på vem som styr Göteborg när kungens sekreterare, från sitt yahookonto, skickade ett mejl till Göran Johansson, ”mayor of the city of Gothenburg”.

The King would use the occation to call Dear Mr Goran Johansson May of Gothenburg and Council to discuss particular interest in the area of Education, Developing,Culture,Technology and your City’s profound interest in Tourism Excellence which is welcoming to under privilege societies.
His Royal Highness will be traveling to your city together with his Royal entourage which includes the District Chief Executive and other equally important officials from the Royal Palace to make the trip relevant and productive.
The visit will highlight on, Education and Cultural discussion as well as a proposal to exploy the Tourism investment Arena between your City and the Dagbon Demanaa Traditional Council Area for our mutual beneficial opportunity.
However, all expenses regarding the visit shall be borne by the Dagbon DemanaaTraditional Council.
I should therefore be very grateful if you could extend an appointment time and date to His Royal Highness and delegation to enable them plan their iritinary.

BAKGRUND
Runt om i Afrika lever traditionella kungahus kvar, så också i republiken Ghana. De traditionella kungarna har ingen politisk makt men deras inflytande kan ändå vara betydande så väl lokalt som i egenskap av rådgivare till presidenten genom The Council of States, bestående av ett antal prominenta medborgare.
Kungadömet Dagbon är delat på flera mindre områden som leds av traditionella ledare, hövdingar. Sedan 1920-talet har två familjer konkurrerat om kungatiteln vilket ibland lett till våldsamheter.
